Beckenham Angels kept their title winning dream alive after a 3-1 victory over local rivals Queens Park at Coker Park on Sunday.

The away side, who sit in second place on the Bankwest Women’s State League Premier Division ladder, put on an impressive performance racing into a 6th minute lead.

It was midfielder Jamie Lee Gale who grabbed her first of the game to open the scoring after great build-up play through the middle of the park.

Danielle Calautti delivered the low cross to which Gale dispatched, leaving the Queens Park keeper rooted.

Gale was outstanding down the right flank with her second goal coming in the 61st minute; an unstoppable shot from outside the box to make it 3-0 for the visitors.

Between Gale’s goals, Perth Glory duo Marianna Tabain and Shannon May, caused Queens Park problems.

Tabain crossed the ball in from the right and May headed home from inside the penalty area in the 53rd minute.

Beckenham coach Jason Washington King said it was a big result coming off the back of a tough game against NTC last week.

“Queens play a similar kind of style to them (NTC) which is tough, physical and full on,” he said.

Queens Park’s chances were few and far between, however, their determination and fight finally paid off when Natasha Rigby grabbed a late consolation goal in the 86th minute.

Brooke Johnston skipped past the Beckenham defence to play in Rigby who was one-on-one with the keeper and netted at the second opportunity to round off the scoring at 3-1.

With only four minutes to play Washington King was frustrated by their consolation goal.

“The game was a real battle today. We played really well in parts however we were disappointed to concede so late on. They’d created very little until that point,” he said.

Looking to the last leg of the league campaign, the Beckenham coach remains hopeful.

“Today was our biggest hurdle and we’ve come through it. The three points keeps us in with a chance of winning the league and that’s what we’re looking to do,” he said.

Today’s victory keeps Beckenham in the hunt for the title, with them hoping that Queens Park can do them a favour, when they take on Northern Redbacks next Sunday at Celebration Park.

Meanwhile Beckenham are looking to keep their winning run going when they face Quinns FC at Sutherlands Park on Sunday at 3pm.
