Backpackers FC are delighted to announce that Metropolitan Cup Finalists and reigning cup holders Backpackers FC Ladies have formally applied to join the Bankwest Women’s State League for season 2017.
Since launching the ladies we’ve enjoyed a meteoric rise through the Metropolitan league structure by blending a fantastic group of local girls with players visiting Perth on a working holiday’s (often with assistance from the club to get settled).
President Neil Hookway said “Joining the State League represents an obvious next step for Ladies. The requirement to field two teams each Sunday represents a challenge but the planning starts now.”
“We will need to expand our coaching team and recruit a minimum of another dozen players – but we wouldn’t be doing this if we weren’t confident in our ability to delivery on both fronts to the required quality”.
He added “The girls have been a shinning light in a season where the guys haven’t lived up to the standards expected by the club. The structure of the mens club will be reviewed during the close season but in the meantime its all about the ladies as they prepare for the Cup Final on September 4th and State League Football in 2017”.
