17-year old Beckenham Angels Premier Division player Stephanie Cain kicks for goal
The premier women’s soccer club in Perth’s south east is running a major pre-season football clinic in 2014 to attract young girls into the world game.
The clinic by the Beckenham Angels Soccer Club is at Mills Park, Brixton Street on Sunday 16 February from 9.15am until 11am. It will be led by Beckenham and ex-Perth Glory women’s players Danni Calautti and Kristy Teschinsky, and winner of the 2011 Football West women’s ‘golden boot’ award, ‘Andie’ Preiato.
There will be free posters and other giveaways to girls who attend. Other planned attractions include appearances by current Perth Glory Women players.
The club, which is the current Football West women’s State League cup winner and Bankwest 2012 premier league champions is aiming to build for the future by fielding teams in the U13 and U15 junior divisions in 2014 and forming an additional team to develop top-line players including those in the 15 to 18 –year age group.
Andie Preiato, who will be coaching the U15s girls team, said it was vital for the club to develop a girls’ soccer program to produce the next generation of Angels. ‘We have a number of highly skilled and passionate young women players who have coaching skills and want to use these to show girls just how much fun and liberating playing soccer can be.’
‘We carried out a similar but relatively small–scale clinic before Christmas and now want to consolidate on its success to build our two girls teams.’
‘Playing a game that has been seen as being a boy’s game is very powerful for girls and can give them a lot of physical and emotional strength and confidence.’
