Bronwyn Studman is under an injury cloud as Perth Glory aim for a record start to a Westfield W-League season when they take on Adelaide United in a Round 3 match at Ashfield Sports Club on Saturday.

Glory have won their first two games of the new season to equal their best start in 2012-13 they went on to reach the finals for the only time in the club’s history.

A win or draw against Adelaide will set a new standard for Jamie Harnwell’s side, whose perfect record two seasons ago was ended by defeat to Western Sydney Wanderers in Round 3.

But after being able to name the same squad for the 2-1 victories over Brisbane Roar and Newcastle Jets, Harnwell might have to make a change to the side against Adelaide.

Studman, who has been integral to the strong start to the season, has been struggling with a thigh strain.

“She will have a fitness test before I make a decision on how we’ll go into the game against Adelaide,” Harnwell said. “If Bron isn’t right to play then we’ll look to bring in Shannon May, who has been unlucky to miss out so far.

“There’s real competition for places and both Bron and Shannon are capable of doing a very good job for us. Shannon was runner-up in last year’s Most Glorious Player awards and she played full back on occasions and picked up votes there.

“I said at the start of the season that we had some depth in the squad and we’re certainly going to need that if we’re going to be up there challenging.”

Adelaide have been beaten by Canberra United and Sydney FC in their opening two matches of the season but Harnwell knows not to expect an easy afternoon against the team coached by former Socceroos midfielder Ross Aloisi.

“We’re happy with the start that we’ve had but we’ve had a look at the video and it highlighted some things that we need to improve on,” Harnwell said.

“Ross has done really with Adelaide in the last year and a half, and we know it will be a difficult game.

“I assume they will be compact and they’ll be hard to beat, just as they were last year when we got a very late goal to win 1-0.”
