Matildas to play Brazil in two match series

The Westfield Matildas will play two international friendly matches against the Brazilian Women’s National Football Team at Queensland Sports & Athletics Centre in Brisbane on Sunday 6 & Wednesday 9 April 2014 respectively.

Westfield Matildas Head Coach Hesterine de Reus will be using these matches to prepare her team for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup which will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from 14-25 May.

“Brazil is a very strong team as indicated by their 4th place in the World Rankings,” said de Reus.

“They have a great talent develop system that produces high quality and outstanding players..

“We have a promising young team, and I am expecting a strong effort against this tough opposition.

“For us it is extremely important to gain experience from matches like this,” concluded de Reus.

The Westfield Matildas are currently 9th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings (as at 13 December 2013) whilst Brazil is in 4th place.

These two teams have met each other on 9 previous occasions with Brazil holding the advantage of 6 wins to the Westfield Matildas 3. In their last encounter at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil defeated the Westfield Matildas 2-1 in the group stage of the tournament.
