Women start season well
WOMEN’S BUSSELTON Soccer Club have continued their undefeated start to the season in the Premier League, thrashing Bunbury United 13-0 on Sunday.
Maddee Rice and Talisa Homer were the best players on the day as Busselton outperformed their oppo-sition in every area. They face a bigger challenge onSunday when they will meet Hay Park United in an early season top- of-the-table clash.
Coach Jason Blackney said the young side was starting to gel togeth- er well as a team and Sunday’s game would be a good test for them.
“Hay Park have been a successful club for a very long time and have been in good form this year going by the results,” he said. “This weekend’s game will be a good test to see if we’re a top-three team or a team that can challenge for the premiership.” Busselton Redbacks didn’t have as
much luck on the weekend, losing 7-0 to a classy Bunbury Dynamos outfit. The loss was debilitating in more ways than one, with an already undermanned Redbacks side losing key defender Dene Mayers before halftime, with an injury which could see her sidelined for several weeks.
The side will be looking to secure their third win of the season on Sun- day when they host Eaton, who sit one spot below them on the ladder with one win and two draws.
Dunsborough’s hopes of a close game on the weekend were dashed when they went down to Eaton 10-0.
They will be hoping for a more competitive performance against the Dynamos on Sunday as they continue to improve their side.
In Division 1, Geographe Bay Seasiders faced the experienced Bunbury Dynamos in a tough and very physical encounter.
The Dynamos dominated play for most of the match but the Seasiders were able to secure a 1-1 draw thanks to a solid performance from goal- keeper Tegan Hollett and a late score by Chloe Marlow.
Captain Rose Williamson said the side was “ecstatic” with the result and would back themselves in their next match against Eaton.
“We did have a scratch match against them early in the season, and we beat them, so we’re hoping we’ll do well this week,” she said.
The Division 1 Busselton team fin- ished off a good weekend for the club with a 3-1 win against Bunbury United.
They next face ladder-leaders Hay Park United on Sunday.
