Perth Glory Women stars Elisa D’Ovidio and Marianna Tabain will both play their 50th Westfield W-League match in this Sunday’s historic home semi-final against Melbourne Victory at nib Stadium.
The pair will reach the milestone just a week after defender Carys Hawkins achieved a half century of games against Adelaide United.
D’Ovidio and Tabain have been a part of the Glory squad since season one and have come through the local development pathway to reach the national league.
The young stars have been instrumental in the team’s run to the semi-finals and securing a second place finish on the table.
“There are heaps of emotions going around at the moment but the girls are pretty pumped,” D’Ovidio said.
“We’ve got a good atmosphere amongst the squad at the moment. We can’t wait to get out there on Sunday.”
Despite scoring a crucial 3-1 away win against Adelaide last weekend, Glory had not produced a complete performance, according to D’Ovidio.
“To tell you the truth we were actually a bit scrappy in the first half,” she said.
“We went in at half-time and had a chat about a few things and we knew we had to get a good result, so second half we went out and we were better.”
Tabain was pleased to have reached the milestone during Glory’s most successful W-League season.
“Obviously it’s been a really rough five years, but I’m looking forward to getting out there and hopefully getting the win,” said Tabain, who is looking forward to the return from suspension of Westfield Matilda Lisa De Vanna.
“With her pace up front we have a bit of an outlet and she also brings her experience to the team.”
D’Ovidio said the team was counting on strong support from the Perth crowd.
“It’s our first final in five years so come out support us, wear purple and bring your voices along,” she said.
