Queens Park v NTC match called off after serious injuries

Injuries end game early

Monday, August 19, 2013

Second-half injuries to Queens Park’s Sam Sparks and National Training Centre’s Danni Griffiths caused an early end to yesterday’s Bankwest Women’s State Premier League match at Coker Park.

Report by James Mooney

The match was called off after 65 minutes of play and Queens Park was awarded a 1-0 win after Sparks and Griffiths were taken to hospital with leg injuries following an unfortunate collision.

The result leaves Queens Park in third spot after drawing with ladder leaders the Northern Redbacks last week and knocking off second place Beckenham Angels a week prior.

Queens Park’s recent results have come with a large number of first team players missing and fringe players taking their opportunities. The win keeps Queens Park’s grip on third place as they look to chase down Beckenham.

Queens Park were under the pump early against the NTC, who were unable to turn possession into chances, and when the home side began to steady they were unable to make their mark in the final third, also.

Striker Nikki Campbell looked dangerous as she looked to add to her 11 goals this season but NTC’s back four held strong. NTC’s keeper Gabby Dal Busco stood firm in goals pulling off some key saves as the first half finished goalless.

Queens Park coach Steve Woodfin’s half-time talk clearly worked as Jess Darmago placed her 18-yard strike into the top right corner after couple of minutes into the restart.
