Hopefully this email finds you well.
I just wanted to get in touch with all registered girls as there has been a change in management of the Football West (FW) Girls Skill Acquisition Program.
Some of you may not be aware that FW runs a Skill Acquisition Program (SAP) for Girls, so I have attached a pdf which provides information on the SAP. The SAP is an FFA initiative with every State in Australia running their own Skill Acquisition Centres for boys & girls.
I have been in charge of the FW boys SAP for the past four years and we’ve seen some fantastic results with some of our players going on to represent Australia at U16 level as well as being offered full-time AIS scholarships.
With the change in management, it now gives me an opportunity to focus on the girls side of the game and hopefully emulate the success we’ve seen with the boys.
Essentially the Girls SAP offers talented players in the U9-U12 age groups extra sessions on top of their usual club commitments.
The sessions are skills based, focusing on the four core skills of First Touch, Striking the Ball, 1v1’s and Running with the Ball.
The logic behind the SAP is that once players master these four core skills, they are then ready to enter the next phase of ‘Game Training’. Here they can apply their acquired skills to more tactically focused sessions in a team oriented environment.
FW has this pathway in place already with the Girls SAP (Skills based for ages 9-12), moving into Girls NTC (Game Training for ages 13-17), and from there potentially into Perth Glory W-League.
