A hat-trick from Melbourne City midfielder Marianna Tabain helped the Angels to get their first win of the season.

Beckenham coach Jason Washington-King said that Tabain was outstanding.

“She’s a great player,” he said.

“She hasn’t played a lot after a couple of months over east, but she was excellent today.”

The hosts controlled the game early with Tabain netting the opening goal as she struck it low from the left side of the box.

Fremantle were unable to do any damage up front as they relied on numbers in their backline to get through the game.

Six minutes before the break Shannon Wilson was able to tap in a wide shot extending the hosts’ lead.

Just three minutes after the restart Tabain got her second as she struck the ball high into the net with the goalkeeper only able to get her finger tips to the ball.

Five minutes later Perth Glory Women midfielder Shannon May scored from a goalmouth scramble as she got a foot in to bury it in the back of the net.

Shortly after, Tabain completed her hat-trick as her shot from range hit the top right corner of the net.

The visitors continued to waste their chances up front as they were being dominated by the hosts, solely focusing on their defensive duties.

The Angels finished off the game with Penelope Clayton finding the ball in a scramble inside the box to make it six for the hosts in the 85th minute.

East Fremantle’s assistant coach Gary Thayer said that his side struggled to compete with the Angels experience and superior physical condition.

“We just played a better side,” he said.

“We’ve just come up this year, so it’s been a steep learning curve for us. They were faster, fitter and more experienced than us.

“We’ve got girls who have played in state division one before, but maybe only three or four have player premier division before.”
