Spirit on high after silver placing

Wednesday, November 19, 2014

Western Spirit finished top of the table undefeated in the over 40 age group before going down 2-1 to PAVS in the grand final at Nerang Soccer Club.

The competition hosted over 1000 players including former Australian internationals, National Soccer League and W-League players.

Former Australian Universities captain and PAVS skipper Kaye Yardin faced up against former Uni vice-captain Penny Tanner, who led Western Spirit.

With Western Spirit defeating PAVS 2-0 in the group stage, PAVS reorganised and crowded out the fast attacking Spirit team.

Spirit continued the relentless attacking pursuit evident in their earlier displays but PAVS were disciplined in defence.

PAVS scored twice with just two opportunities and Spirit were only able to beat PAVS’ top-form keeper once through a well-struck penalty by Kelly Jarden.
