SBS is pleased to announce that for the first time in Australian TV history it will be broadcasting the entire 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada, live, free and exclusive – including all Matildas matches.

All matches from the month-long tournament will be LIVE on SBS ONE, SBS HD and online – with the only exceptions on air being the concurrent group stage matches, which will be streamed live online.

The Women’s World Cup will kick off with the opening match between host nation, Canada and China on Sunday 7 June at 7.30am AEST LIVE on SBS ONE with the final on Monday 6 July from 8.30am AEST.

Don’t miss a minute of Australia’s World Cup journey as we bring you all the Matildas‘ Group D matches LIVE as Alen Stajcic’s team matches wits against powerful opponents United States, Nigeria and Sweden.

The Matildas’ campaign will begin on Tuesday 9 June when they take on 2011 runner up USA from 9.00am AEST LIVE on SBS ONE. Next up they face Nigeria on Saturday 13 June from 6.30am AEST LIVE on SBS ONE, before they take on Sweden, which finished third in 2011, on Wednesday 17 June from 9.30am AEST LIVE on SBS ONE.

Lucy Zelic will host all of the Matildas’ matches with ex-Matildas stars Sally Shipard and Joanne Peters while David Basheer will be joined in commentary Australia’s three-times World Cup representative Heather Garriock.

SBS 2 will feature a daily highlights show at 5:35pm*, which will include match highlights and analysis as well as interviews, features and the latest football news.

SBS reporter Vitor Sobral will be in Canada following the Matilda’s World Cup campaign, while reporting live ahead of each of their matches. He will also have the latest news and interviews with players and football experts.

Ken Shipp, SBS’s Director of Sport said: “The World Cup is ingrained in SBS’s DNA and we’re thrilled to be able to showcase the best of international women’s football to Australian audiences. This year we are showing 41 matches live on air, with all 52 matches available live online, a first in Australian TV history.

“The Matildas are a very strong team with a long history of success. In their previous two World Cup campaigns they qualified to the quarterfinals stage – so we’re really looking forward to sharing their 2015 journey with the whole of Australia.”
