Your chance to tell your club’s story

Thursday, June 12, 2014

It might be the former Socceroos star, who puts up your club nets, or the stalwart of 40 years, who sits behind the goal every week, hoping and praying for a victory.

It could be the wonder kid, whose tricks with a ball are something to behold, or the girl dreaming of playing for the Matildas.

But wherever you play, and whatever the size of your club, you are certain to have a unique story that deserves to be heard.

With the aim of shining a light on these rich and distinctive stories, Football West has teamed up Seven News Perth and The West Australian to give you extra incentive to dig out your club’s gem.

The Local Heroes competition is a community initiative resulting from a new media partnership between soccer’s peak body and Perth’s favourite TV news service.

Now it’s down to you to scratch beneath the surface of your club to uncover the story of a former luminary, future star or even just a long-standing volunteer.

The story of the month, as selected by Football West and Seven News Perth, will be rewarded with a $500 cash prize and a public airing of your unique story. The winning story will either be published online at www.thewest.com.au, in The West Australian newspaper or broadcast on Seven News Perth.

All you have to do is unearth your club’s best-kept secret and let us know all about it. Send your stories to media@footballwest.com.au with the words “Local Heroes” in the subject field.
